AREAS OF SPECIALISATION

Maternal mental health and wellbeing - support to parents

Since becoming a mother, Nuria has developed a specific interest in working with maternal mental health and wellbeing. She frequently supports parents as they navigate the demands, change in role and stresses that come with pregnancy and parenthood. Her interventions can also include helping parents support their children during stressful life transitions (e.g., managing exam related stress)

Bipolar affective disorder

During her employment in the NHS, Nuria developed an area of interest in working with people with Bipolar Affective Disorder. Nuria can help people adjust to the diagnosis; develop a balance life-style and emotional resilience in order to stay well; identify early signs and manage symptoms to effectively mitigate potential relapses.

Supporting families and carers of those with psychosis and other severe mental illness

Nuria has extensive experience working with people with severe and enduring mental illness and their families. As a Lead Clinician in a specialist NHS service for adults with severe and enduring mental illness, Nuria developed her expertise in providing support to carers and families. She has trained in Behavioural Family Therapy (BFT, Meriden Family Program) and was one of the Lead Clinicians developing and delivering the BFT Training Trainers programme in her NHS Trust.

TYPES OF THERAPY

Nuria has extensive experience in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and other approaches based on CBT, such as

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy,

  • Compassion Focused Therapy,

  • Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy,

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and

  • Behavioural Family Therapy.

Her training as a clinical psychologist means that she can also draw upon psychological theory and integrate a range of other therapeutic models (e.g., systemic, narrative, motivational).
